LIGHTS OUT

She woke up suddenly and sat up in the bed. She knew that something was wrong. She was shivering and there was no light on and outside was extremely dark. The security lights were on outside but they operated on a battery.

She reached over to the nightstand and grabbed her flashlight. She was always prepared for something. She turned it on and she shone it around the room. She was so cold.

She grabbed her blanket and wrapped it around her. She went to get her robe. She dropped the blanket and put it on quickly. She had her socks on in a jiffy to keep her feet warm and she headed out to the living room. She had left her mobile phone out there. The landline phone would be dead as there was no power.

She opened her door and walked gingerly into the living room. She was careful to keep the flashlight pointed at the ground. She didn’t want to wake Nigel. It didn’t work because just as she bent to take her phone up. The light shifted in her hand and shone on him. He was waking up.

“It is sooo cold. What happened? Is the power out?”

“Yes it is, sorry to wake you up like that. I just wanted to get my cel so I could check and find out what was really going on.”

He sat up. He was wrapped up nicely in his blanket. He shifted over and patted the space beside him indicating she should sit.”

“Maybe a power pole got damaged.” He said.

She sat beside him and made the call. She was on hold forever. She was shivering uncontrollably now. She hung up in despair.

“I am really worried. Suppose we are all stuck in here and no one can get out, suppose the power does not come back for now.”

Nigel looked at her. He could hear the concern in her voice. Even though she was wrapped in the blanket, she was still shivering. Maybe she had not warmed up yet.

“Don’t worry about it. If anything we can go and get warm in the truck. I always have it filled up and carry extra petrol just in case. Hey we can always turn the stove on and huddle in front of it to keep warm. There is always a solution.”

"Oh, yes, I didn't think about that at all."

"Come on, stay with me out here. We can stay awake and keep each other warm. You are cold because you got out of your bed. I haven't moved yet so I am still warm."

She didn't even think twice about it. She hurriedly climbed into the bed and under the blanket with him. He used her blanket to cover them as well. He covered them from head to foot.

"This should have us nice and warm shortly."

She slowly started to warm up. She was even warmer because she was feeling the heat coming off his body. She really was attracted to him. She loved the fact that she was so close to him and touching him.
